Unique Simple Crochet Stitches for Beginners

Crochet has always been a craft that fosters growth and community in many different ways. Crochet can act as a bonding agent to strengthen communities during difficult times. For example, crocheting communities have come together to craft beanies for children with cancer. Crochet has also strengthened bonds by helping improve mental wellness and health. Additionally, in some instances, crochet has helped build a learning community and impacted elementary education.

The crab stitch can best be described as a reversed double crochet. To do this stitch, insert your hook into the chain to your right and pick up a loop. Be sure to hold onto the yarn on your hook for this step so that it doesn’t fall off. Once you’ve picked up a loop, pull it back through the chain. Then wrap your yarn around your hook and pull through both loops off of your hook. Continue until you reach your desired length.

The slip stitch is very simple and is executed by inserting your hook into the next available chain and picking up a loop. Pull the loop back through the chain and through the existing loop on your hook. Continue until you reach your desired length.
